Currency Volatility Drags on Earnings

North American businesses faced stiff currency headwinds during the third quarter of last year as geopolitical uncertainty prompted foreign-exchange volatility, according to an analysis of the earnings calls of 1,200 companies.

The total dollar value of reported negative currency impacts among businesses jumped more than 10 times compared with the previous quarter, according to the latest tally by FiREapps Inc., which advises clients on currency risk.
