How Eutelsat transformed treasury into a strategic function while reducing FX risk

For Eutelsat’s treasury organization, the objective was clear: modernize an underperforming treasury technology foundation, strengthen security, and standardize processes across a complex global operating environment.

This mandate was especially critical given the company's scale. Eutelsat is one of the world's leading satellite communications providers, serving some 6,500 TV channels and reaching one billion viewers. Its global reach is powered by more than 20 geostationary satellites and a low Earth orbit constellation of approximately 650 OneWeb satellites, delivering data, internet content, and video worldwide.

“Before Kyriba, we were using treasury software that was underperforming and poorly deployed across the group. We wanted to move from the Stone Age to the smartphone era.”

Nicolas Bouclet, Deputy Group Treasurer, Eutelsat

The turning point

Eutelsat adopted Kyriba to close a technology gap in treasury. Security standards were absolutely critical and were validated by Kyriba’s teams. Implementation began with the main entity and then expanded across Eutelsat’s entities worldwide. Kyriba became a central hub for treasury automation operations.

Today, Kyriba supports Eutelsat as its payment factory, enabling the organization to standardize and scale treasury operations globally.

After deploying the essential Kyriba modules needed for treasury operations, Eutelsat pushed further. The team connected its FX trading platform to Kyriba and extended automation downstream into settlement monitoring and execution.

This end-to-end automation streamlined work for front office, cash management, and back office teams by eliminating low-value tasks and reducing operational risk.

Measurable impact, time saved, and reporting streamlined

With trading connectivity and automated FX-related processes in place, Eutelsat quantified the operational benefit. The team saves approximately ten hours per month on treasury automation processes related to foreign exchange.

Beyond transaction execution, Eutelsat also automated the production and distribution of reports. This reduced the burden of recurring reporting and freed teams to focus on high-judgment, high-sensitivity activities such as FX risk hedging.

“Based on our ROI and time-savings calculations, we gain approximately ten hours per month across the entire team on treasury processes related to foreign exchange operations.”

Eutelsat’s roadmap builds on the same theme of automation and system-to-system integration. With the trading platform connected to Kyriba, and Kyriba connected to the ERP for payments, the next step is to extend integration for accounting entries related to FX hedging operations.

For a company whose satellite network helps deliver critical data and content worldwide, treasury automation is part of a broader operating model: connected systems, auditable processes, and more time for teams to focus on strategic financial risk management.
